Best Scenic Destinations for Hen Weekends
Your Hen weekend doesn’t have to be all about crazy hen weekend activities, alcohol and partying. Sometimes there is nothing better than getting out with the girls in the great outdoors and enjoying some of the fantastic scenery that we have here in the UK. Here is our selection of some of the best hen weekends for scenery.
Lake District
The Lake District is a National Park in Cumbria, in the North West of England and is certainly one of the most beautiful areas in the UK. It is renowned for its famous ribbon lakes (including Lake Windemere and Coniston Water) and rugged fells, carved by long ago glaciers. Whilst nightlife is sparse, as there are only a handful of large towns in this mountainous region, if your Hens are outdoor enthusiasts or keen walkers then this is the destination for you and it is certainly one of the best Hen weekend destinations for scenery. The Lake District is the perfect destination if you and the girls want to rent a cottage for the weekend and enjoy the majesty of nature. If you are going hiking we particularly recommend you try the famous Kendall Mint Cake, a local delicacy.
Bath
Bath is always a popular destination for Hens, with its historic thermal baths and lively nightlife it has a sophistication that other popular Hen party destinations sometimes lack. If you are looking for scenery then you are spoilt for choice in Bath. Bath is surrounded by the rolling hills, idyllic peaceful waterways and charming villages of North Somerset, and only slightly further afield you can choose between the Cheddar Gorge or the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, or even the Cotswolds. We would certainly recommend Bath as one of the best Hen weekend destinations for scenery, with a dash of sophistication!
Cardiff
Cardiff, the capital of Wales, is another city that provides a great night out for your Hen do and an abundance of shopping and spas. Cardiff is also a gateway to the rest of Wales where you can enjoy some of the finest scenery in the UK. From Cardiff it is about a half hour drive to the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and about the same if you want to take the Brecon Mountain railway in the Brecon Beacons, which takes you alongside the Pontsticill reservoirs and up to Pant, to enjoy the fantastic views. Alternatively, some 45 minutes’ drive from Cardiff is the Vale of Neath. The Vale of Neath enjoys no less than 9 waterfalls and a stunning mountain vista setting. Waterfall Country, as it is known, has long been associated with artists, particularly JMW Turner, the landscape artist. If you are looking for the best Hen weekend destinations for scenery then Cardiff can deliver and it puts you on the doorstep for the rest of beautiful South Wales.
Bournemouth
Bournemouth is another perennially popular destination for Hen weekends. This is due, in the most part, to the vibrant nightlife and the 7 miles of beautiful sandy beach, however you do not have to travel far from Bournemouth to find yourself marvelling at the scenery! On the one side of Bournemouth is the majestic New Forest, planted by William the Conqueror as his royal hunting grounds, and on the other, the Isle of Purbeck and the Jurassic Coast. The Jurassic Coast has breath taking beaches, picturesque coastal towns and magnificent rock natural rock formations such as Durdle Door. If you are looking for one of the best Hen weekend destinations for scenery, then don’t overlook Bournemouth, it has the best of both worlds for your Hen party!
Inverness
Inverness, considered the capital of the Scottish Highlands, is a great destination for a Hen weekend, not only do you have plenty of shopping and trendy bars, you also have the dramatic Highland landscape. With its lofty mountains and glimmering lochs, Inverness and the Scottish Highlands have to get a mention as one of the best Hen weekend destinations for scenery. A really popular activity in Inverness for those with a taste for the outdoors is gorge walking. In this you don wetsuit, helmet and lifejacket and swim, scramble jump and climb your way through an otherwise inaccessible gorge, up the side of a mountain with stunning views to enjoy all the way.
York
York is a fantastic choice for a Hen weekend. There is plenty of culture with its history and architecture, a vast array of drinking establishments and the wonderful natural beauty of the North Yorks Moors and the Yorkshire Dales. This stunning landscape was shaped by glaciers and features lush, green vales and windswept hills with a vast expanse of heather moors. The Yorkshire Dales covers 860 square miles and offers deep ravines, cave systems, lakes, waterfalls and the stunning, limestone, natural amphitheatre of Malham Cove. York is a must to be in the running for one of the best Hen weekends destinations for scenery!
