INTRO
If you are in the market for a stunningly luxurious hen house for you and a larger group of girls, and you want somewhere that is serene, yet not so far into the wilderness that you can’t have a good night out, then you have come to the right place. The Hookstone Estate is made up of a pair of buildings located next to each other – one is a converted barn that sleeps up to twelve of you, and then the other is a converted farmhouse that sleeps up to eight. For those of you who are quick on the draw you’ll realise that means that the total capacity of the Hookstone Estate is twenty guests, which sounds like a brilliantly huge hen do, doesn’t it?
LOCATION
The Hookstone Estate is located in Harrogate – a town in North Yorkshire that is well known for stunning scenery and fabulous views, as well as a vibe that is very warm and welcoming. The Estate itself is just a few minutes from the centre of the town of Harrogate (which has some great pubs as well as plenty of shops and all the other facilities you’d expect from a local town), and is only thirty five minutes drive from the city of York as well.
Yes, that’s right – if you’ve done any research about what are the most popular UK hen do destinations of the last few years, I’m sure that York has come up several times, and for very good reason! So why wouldn’t you want to stay somewhere so close to one of the most popular places in the country, which also feels like it’s beautifully secluded?
KITCHEN AND DINING
A running theme with a lot of the descriptions of the Hookstone Estate is going to be that there are two of just about everything. Because it’s a pair of buildings. So there are two full kitchens, both equipped with everything you could possibly want from a kitchen. Ovens for cooking, toasters for toasting, fridges for wine (and possibly some food as well, depending on what your plans for the weekend are), these kitchens are both big enough that someone could cook a meal for all twenty guests in either one, so you won’t have to split the cooking up in order to make it work.
There are also dining areas in both kitchens, with the barn having a table that can fit twelve and the farmhouse having a table that can seat eight. However, both are open-plan kitchen diners, and both kitchens have a large kitchen island as well, so if you all wanted to eat together in one of the properties, you’d have no problem finding the space to do so and all staying in the same room.
BEDROOMS
There are a total of seven bedrooms split across the farmhouse and the barn, and they break down as follows:
FARMHOUSE – BEDROOM 1 – King sized double bed (Sleeps 2)
FARMHOUSE – BEDROOM 2 - King sized double bed (Sleeps 2)
FARMHOUSE – BEDROOM 3 – Two king sized double beds (Sleeps 4)
BARN – BEDROOM 1 – King sized bed (Sleeps 2)
BARN – BEDROOM 2 – King sized bed (Sleeps 2)
BARN – BEDROOM 3 – King sized bed with en-suite bathroom (Sleeps 2)
BARN – BEDROOM 4 – Super king sized bed, double sofa bed and en-suite bathroom (Sleeps 4)
And for those of you who have added all of those numbers together and are still asking the question “where are the other two people sleeping?” There is also a sofa bed in the lounge of the Barn, which brings the total number of bed spaces up to twenty.
BATHROOMS
As you can imagine, if you have seven bedrooms, you’re going to need a few bathrooms! We’ve already mentioned that two of the bedrooms in the barn have en-suite bathrooms, so as well as that there are another four bathrooms spread across the two buildings (three in the farmhouse and one more in the barn, making a total of three in the barn itself). There’s also a cloakroom on the ground floor of the barn as well, ensuring that you and the girls won’t ever have a situation where you cannot find a bathroom space if you need it!
COMMUNAL AREAS
There are three main communal areas across the barn and the farmhouse. The first two are the lounges in each property. Both of these are fully fitted out with comfortable sofas, fires, TVs, coffee tables, all the sorts of things that you’d want in a communal area where you and the girls are going to spend your evenings drinking, laughing and just generally having a great time.
The third communal area is the surprise one. At the back of the barn’s garden, there is a garden room which has been fully kitted out as a games room. This contains such entertainments as a shuffleboard and a pool table, as well as a table football table and even an arcade machine – so there’ll be something there for everyone to enjoy.
Luxury Outdoor Hot Tub, BBQ & Gardens
Both properties have lovely gardens and outside areas. The garden of the barn gives you somewhere to sit, relax, take in a bit of sun and enjoy the stunning Yorkshire views. The garden of the farmhouse offers all of this as well, of course, but supplements it with a BBQ, so if you and the girls fancy a burger, a sausage or something a bit more fancy (salt and chilli pork steaks are a favourite here), then you’ll be able to whip something up with minimal fuss. And then, of course, the farmhouse also has an outside hot tub, so you can relax and watch the sun set with a glass of wine in hand. A perfect end to a perfect day.
