The Dutch are famous among expert chocolate aficionados, however most of you may not know that we actually owe the Dutch a lot when it comes to our favourite treat. In fact two Dutch men in particular, so step forward and take a bow, Mr van Houten and his father Mr van Houten. These two gentlemen have had such a huge impact into the way chocolate is produced and consumed, it seems only fitting that there is a hen do activity in Amsterdam focusing on chocolate.
It all started back in the early 19th Century when a Dutch chemist, Coenraad Johannes van Houten, found a way to process the cacao bean to produce a powdered chocolate, this powdered chocolate is known as 'Dutch Cocoa' and is widely recognised as being vastly superior against any other type of cocoa. Mr van Houtens father perfectly demonstrates that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, when he designed a new chocolate press, an invention that ultimately made chocolate more affordable for the masses thus paving the way for chocolate to be the favourite treat for people of all ages all around the world.
Hosted by our knowledgeable chocolate expert, our chocolate tasting experience will not only give your Amsterdam hen do a new found appreciation of Dutch chocolate but also a delicious and indulgent tasting session that includes International award winning Single Origin chocolates and home made chocolate bonbons.
